Coffee Shop Sketch

And here's some pencil sketches I did at the coffee shop awhile back. I'll turn them into full-blown illustrations at some point. I'm very ADD. No, I didn't use any references. Even those bejankity wolves.

Doodlz

I don't usually do this, but it struck me when I flipped through an older sketchbook how much and how fast my drawing changes. I'm pretty secretive about even the dumbest of doodles, but I figure I have nothing to hide. So here's some random old pencil sketches that never quite made the cut. There's some weird ones here, I know.

We're Famous

I just found some pictures online of last year's Stumptown Comics Fest. Here are my friends Patrick Keck, Thomas Stemrich, and Will Iversen of Dracula Sauce. They make rad comics (Bogwitch, Ghetto Dogs) and castles. And I don't know who that geek below is.

Artcrank

I'll be in this cool bike poster show October 1st. Check it out because $5 of each sale goes to Bikes to Rwanda. Also, take a gander at the Artcrank site for more info and to see all the other awesome artists in the Portland show.

Here's a preview of my poster. It's a 4 color silk-screened print. The grey is actually silver. Once I get the actual posters I'll post a new photo.

New Style

This month I had some paintings in a group show at Report Lounge, Portland. As I refine my style I have been feeling that this group probably shows more continuity from me than before. People have been telling me it reminds them of Dr. Seuss, which is a huge compliment to me, since Seuss is an amazing legend.

You've seen this before in a different version. I'm pretty attached to this new color scheme.
I have plans for this pattern.

I call this painting, "Little Guys." People seem to like this one the best. I will probably make postcards out of this one. What do you think?

Goodbye Old Moldy Basement Studio

I recently moved and acquired a sweet new studio. Before I painted over my old studio walls, I took some snaps of some old paint sketches/experiments. My work has changed so much since these old things. Out with the old, in with the new. Goodbye old dingy, dirty, moldy, stinky, dark basement studio!! I won't miss you. Stay tuned for picks of my newly decorated/still in progress sweet new studio. Even I am blown away.

Softer Side of Me

I made some adorable looking small paintings that I took to Stumptown Comics Fest, which was pretty rad. I sat next to Dracula Sauce guys, and that was also rad. You will never see this cuteness from me again. I'm just kidding, geez! Plenty more where that came from.

Illustration: Tree Poster

This is a screenprinted poster I made from something I drew a few years ago. Printed by Seizure Palace in SE Portland.

Painting: Board of Art Show at City Hall

This painting was done for a show at Portland City Hall called "Board of Art: A Historical Perspective of Skateboarding" or something like that. It was rad though, because my friends built a miniramp and skated it right there at City Hall and it was a real scene. Plus having your paintings hanging by Commissioner Sam Adams' office isn't too bad. And he liked them. Somewhere I have pictures of the miniramp, which I also painted on, but since my old computer crashed, it'll be awhile.

Paintings: Random

This is one of my favorite paintings. I don't know why.I'm really into hands now, in addition to knots and holes.
This painting was made on an old piece of used skateboard, which I have tons of, and you can see the marks in the wood. I can't sand much anymore, with bum wrists and nerves.

Paintings: Random

Installation: Plutonium; The Forgotten Plant

This is yet another installation by myself and friend Rochelle Koivunen. We made it entirely out of recycled materials, including the paint. In the back is a 10ft+ tall tree stump we made that you could get inside, just to give you some scale of the whole thing. Installed at Backspace Gallery in downtown NW Portland.

We painted as many two-headed birds as we could before the opening. Below is a nice one.

We made these awesome soft rocks with bold stitching out of stockings. Below you can also see how some of the stumps we made out of recycled fabric still have pockets and secret hiding places.
I don't know why the color is off on this shot but you get the idea. The neon green color was really hard to capture. It was one of those, "you had to be there," sort of things.
In-progress shot of of the mural going in.
A little inspiration I found stuck to the wall outside on a building.
